Getting Started with BoM

BoM™ CONNECT Edition is an AddIn or App that adds functionality to Bentley Systems MicroStation® CONNECT. It's a tool for architects, engineers, planners and technicians.

BoM facilitates annotatation of DGN elements

Once you've loaded BoM, key-in command BOM HELP DOCUMENT. That opens your default web browser at the BoM web help page.

Example DGN File

BoM-example.dgn is a simple design. It contains a number of widgets that are annotated using BoM.

Download BoM-example.ZIP then extract BoM-example.dgn.

BoM ToolBox

After installing BoM its MicroStation toolbox becomes available. If you don't see that toolbox, consult your MicroStation administrator. You can open the toolbox using MicroStation key-in CUSTOMIZE OPEN TOOLBOX BoM …

BoM Tool Box

Each button in the toolbox starts one of BoM's more commonly-used commands. To see all the commands available with BoM, see the Command Table.

Looking at the toolbox screenshot above, here's a brief description of each tool, going from left to right.

Label Item

Tool Box: Label Item

Click this button to start annotating MicroStation elements.

The BoM Tool Settings dialog opens …

Tool Settings: Label BoM

BoM prompts you to choose an element. This operation is similar to other MicroStation tools that require you to identify an object. MicroStation's tool settings changes to show relevant dialog items.

Once you've adjusted the tool settings to your requirements, give a datapoint  to place the new label. This completes BoM annotation.

The current command remains active, waiting for you to label more elements.

Query BoM feature

Tool Box: Query Item

Click this button to examine annotated BoM features. An BoM feature is DGN element that you have annotated using BoM.

This tool lets you choose only those elements that have BoM data attached.

Remove BoM feature Data

Tool Box: Delete BoM feature

BoM prompts you to choose a BoM feature. On confirmation, BoM removes its data from the chosen element and deletes the annotation label.

Use the Label command if you want to annotate that element once again.

Create a Report

Tool Box: Create Report

This command starts MicroStation's Report utility.

Place a Table

Tool Box: Place Table

This command starts MicroStation's Create Table from Report utility.
