AreaAnnotator: a MicroStation Application

AreaAnnotator™ CONNECT Edition is an AddIn or App that adds functionality to Bentley Systems MicroStation® CONNECT. It's a tool for architects, engineers, planners and technicians.

AreaAnnotator facilitates annotatation of areas

FlexiTable Reports

AreaAnnotator delegates the harvesting of Item Type instance data to FlexiTable™ CONNECT Edition.

FlexiTable harvests AreaAnnotator data

FlexiTable provides a familiar worksheet presentation. It permits sorting and filtering of data. It provide aggregated information, including a count of harvested data and the sum of areas and perimeters.

AreaAnnotator Reports & Tables

AreaAnnotator can use MicroStation to generate reports and tables. MicroStation provides an Item Types reporting tool. From the reporting tool, you can create a table for placement as a DGN graphic element.

MicroStation Reports

AreaAnnotator CONNECT Edition does a very specific job, which is to monitor shapes and record their areas. It makes it easy to create Reports from those same data. When you want a report, AreaAnnotator sends a request to MicroStation's Reports dialog to display a report. The report is composed with a combination of AreaAnnotator's ID and Purpose Items and each area element's area property.

MicroStation Reports Dialog

You can report both the measured area and a converted area, using different metrics. That is, if your DGN model master units are metres, then the reported area is square metres. If you choose in addition to show an alternative area measurement, such as square feet, then those values can also be added to your report.

The report illustrated below shows the formatted area and perimeter measurements in the DGN model's master units, which are metres. The report also shows alternative metrics where the alternative (alt) area is shown in square yards and the alternative (alt) perimeter is show in yards.

MicroStation Table

AreaAnnotator CONNECT Edition makes it easy to create Tables from those same data. When you request a table, AreaAnnotator first sends a request to MicroStation's Reports dialog to create a report. Next, it requests the Reports dialog to create a MicroStation table. The table is created and you then place the table in the usual way as a DGN element.
